Actually looking at the Micron's site I think that you get a better deal today. Lets examine.

Previously you got Works included and you could upgrade to Office (you say Pro so I will go along) for $40 dollars.

Now when buy a Micron you get Office SBE (Small business edition) which has Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and some other stuff as well at no additional cost over the price of the PC (I know what your response is here) and computer prices are dropping. This is a tremendous upgrade from Works for the same cost to the user! I didn't call to check out what the Professional option is but from the looks of it most users would not need to upgrade to Pro so you get more software for less money.

At least that is how I see it.

P.S. I think even the 10 year old numbers are useful to compare the falling prices of software over time...
