It has been clear to me for a while that Mohawk is being rushed because they want to shut down Durham.

The Durham and RTP fabs are nearly the same square footage as the Mohawk fab but combined are less than 1/4th the capacity of Mohawk. Those fabs were never going to be able to provide the capacity that Cree was going to need if they were going to be even remotely successful competing for power device design wins.

Ultimately though, they are going to need to ramp up their 200mm yields at Mohawk faster than their competitors can ramp their yields of 200mm boules.

The strange comments to me this time centered around the inability to compete outside of long term wafer supply agreements and unable to compete in China with GAN on SiC.

They have said for quite a while that they don't sell much into the spot market for SiC wafers.

With respect to China, they can't sell to Huawei. ZTE is a possibility though I imagine that they would avoid using a US supplier if they can help it. That means the vast majority of the Chinese infrastructure market is basically a non-starter for the company.
