The Wavestar (DWDM) announcement made couple a days ago is probably catching up with the market. A nice breakout for Lucent. Long overdue...

Paul,

Lucent has news releases on products, contracts, or alliances almost everyday.

I think the recent surge may have stemmed from, among other things:

1) Excellent eps reported for Q1 of 1998 and huge upside surprises;
2) Exciting Outlook projected at cc and afterwards;
3) Robust eps reported by Alcatel, another giant telco.

Anyway, prior to the present run, it appeared that the mo guys were out, and now they are coming back in. This was evidenced by large blocks traded in recent days.

Ibexx
