I read about that study, and they seem to have found that the spike proteins also attack the specialized linings of the arteries, which they think is causing the clotting. We're continuing to learn about this disease.

and it become a chronic, how ever low level, situation.

Just in the last few days I've started hearing the word, "endemic." That prospect seems likely to me.
