Greg,

you hit the nail on the head with your views on implementation. There are many companies that are too quick to blame it on the software where they did not clearly define their business processes or attempted to improve them, AND did not totally committed themselves to the success of the project, aka "Whatever it takes" approach.

For a recent example, see an article in a recent InfoWeek on Unisource stopping the rollout ... for now. They went through THREE integrators (all Big 6 or IBM - lots of $$$$), then when that did not work out, they recruited their own employment force to do it (spent lots of training $$$$ for people majority of whom jumped or will jump the ship as soon as they get their skills up to date). When that did not work, they just stopped. Why did that happen? By their own admission they as an organization were not ready with their business processes all over the place and no clear plan of attack.
