Re:AMAT: DEUTSCHE MORGAN decreased estimate for fiscal year
ending 10/99 from $2.55 to $2.15 on 01/28/98

Analysts: Morons, each and every one.

Teri,

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but AMAT will beat these FY99 #'s by a huge margin and I would be willing to make a wager off line on this. How bullish/bearish are you?

Regards,

Brian

Re: DM analyst est.: what about qtr. ending 4/98?

Did they reiterate estimate of about 0.50? In regards to quarters more than two in the future, I have come to the conclusion that noone really knows (not the semi-equip or semi execs, not the analysts, not the financial press, not the mutual fund managers, not you and certainly not me). In any time frame of at least 3 years, it is a very safe bet that the semi-equip industry and AMAT will grow profits faster than just about anyone else. However, there is that vast blank gap between 6 months and 3 years. That uncertainty is what causes AMAT's PE to be lower than MSFT's, although their growth rates are comparable.

I'll tell you what really bothers me. Buffet bought bonds, and now silver. I'm 100% in stocks, as are most of the posters here.
Buffet has more wisdom in his fingernail clippings than all the AMAT analysts combined. What does he know that I don't?
