Might be able to get by on it in fly over country but not here in CA. Not that I don't think it's a disincentive to work for those on the margins.
$18.75/hour is definitely a disincentive to work, even here in California.

Fast food places are advertising a starting wage of $16/hour, but someone getting paid $18.75/hour to do nothing is obviously not going to take that starting wage. An employer would have to offer significantly more in order for the freeloader to get off his duff.

"buT buT thE corporationS shoulD havE beeN payinG a livinG wagE froM thE beginninG ..." Yeah, nothing like employers with limited resources, especially small businesses but also big corporations, having to compete against the federal government who can print money.
