Mesa holder seeks better United relations

WASHINGTON, Feb 3 (Reuters) - A group led by Jonathan Ornstein said Tuesday it urged Mesa Air Group Inc to improve its relations with United Airlines'
(UAL - news) United Express Operations.

''The board of directors should develop alternatives with respect to the United Express assets to preserve or enhance shareholder value,'' the group said in a filing
with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Such alternatives include the possible spin-off of such assets or sale of such assets, possibly through an employee stock ownership plan or otherwise, the group said.

Depending on market conditions, the group said it may purchase additional shares of common stock in the open market or in private transactions.

The group said it holds its stake in the Atlanta, Ga., -based company for the purpose of influencing policies of the company. On Jan. 30, Ornstein and James
Swigart were elected to the board of directors.

The groups holds a 6.17 percent stake in Mesa, or 1,746,513 common shares. At midmorning, the stock traded at $6.875 per share on Nasdaq.
