Lives in The United States of America

What do you make of claims by individuals who took part in the January 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riots that the Capitol Police "welcomed" them into the Capitol?

Hmmm… one answer on Never Trumpers, and it’s “Hidden.” Quite curious.

Let me take a brief stab at the question:

If you banged on a shopping mall door after closing time so that you could go in and trash the place, steal what you could, and maybe see if you could hang the mall manager, and a security guard welcomed you in, does that mean you could get off? By blaming someone else that you were there illegally?

This comparison is just and accurate. The Capital Building was closed to the public—you know “visitors”—and it had been for almost a year. After hours, the mall is closed to the public. Being in either place is illegal, whether you knew it was or not, whether “someone else” let you in or not.

Now, you decide whether or not the insurrectionists should get a pass.

Me? I’m checkmarking “Throw the book at ‘em.”
