Add Ralph Acampora to the list of prominent market strategists with a sudden interest in Micron Technology.

"We are very bullish on semiconductors," said Acampora, director of technical research at Prudential.

Acampora said he recommended Texas Instruments Inc (NYSE:TXN) , Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) , Cypress Semiconductor (NYSE:CY) , Micron Technology Inc (NYSE:MU), Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC) , Teradyne Inc (NYSE:TER) , Novellus Inc (NASDAQ:NVLS), LSI Logic (NYSE:LSI) and Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT) .

He added that his comments, made on a technical basis, coincided with a new semiconductor analyst at Prudential, Hans Mosesman initiating coverage on several chip makers.

"We hit the world with a one-two punch," Acampora said. "These stocks look very, very good."

Yet another Wall Street "professional" who seems to view the market as a glorified street fight. Ralph, it would have been hipper (not to mention more to the point) to say "s**t man, we capped their f****g bear asses like a m*****f****r on this one." <g>

Do the brokers at Pru wear Raiders jackets or are they going w/ the L.A. Kings look this year?

I owe an apology to John Lazlo (who is at Paine Webber, not Pru). I thought Lazlo had too much sense to make that kind of call. He does.

So, Hans "thanks Ralph for making me look important" Mosesman is the guy.

Nice of Bob Pisani to so diligently report throughout the day on the fact that it was Ralph Acampora throwing his weight behind a new analyst at Pru, not merely the initiation, that got these things moving. What an ace. He makes Maria B. (the most over-rated "talent" at CNBC) look like the broadcast equivalent of Herb Greenberg (hands down, the best print journalist when it comes to covering the techs). Pisani deserves the hook in favor of Martha McCallum.

Good trading,

Tom
