Yes, that's very unusual. I can't recall that happening before. Someone must have broken the news embargo rules, so they had to announce it. That would be my guess.

The speculation has been that their 4-1 split is so that they can be included in the Dow30 index.

I fully expect it to drop after earnings. They pretty much already said earnings would be great, then announced the split. Every bit of good news should already be priced in. I have been wrestling with if I should buy puts on it but the premiums seem rich and I'm suspecting that the sellers are assuming it's going to drop too. The premium drop may not cover the drop in price. I'm too chicken to just short it though. Squeezes in mania semis can be brutal.
