John,

Cymer said twice that the earnings would be down $0.10-0.15 (as Robert pointed out). Did you explicitly ask her about the earnings numbers?

I just had a gut feeling that .40 number was wrong. Lets hope this news spreads as fast as the bad news did. My net worth is in need of a boost.

Bill Angus (much to my surprise) just called me back. Here's the deal:

People who are looking for the correct information regarding the present quarter should read the press release at the Cymer website. The Reuters release is a complete mystery to Mr. Angus, and the corrections are non-factual.

Cymer is still expecting a 1Q decrease in earnings per share of $.10 to $.15.

John,

Could you post a link to the corrected release?

After going to cymer.com and attempting to follow your instructions, I could only find the original Earnings release which still states:

We currently expect that the investments needed to fund these critical future-oriented efforts, coupled with the anticipated revenue decline, will reduce our quarterly earnings by $0.10 - $0.15 per share in the first quarter of 1998, as compared to our just announced fourth quarter."

It also states,

"As a result of these factors, and based on information currently available to us, we anticipate a reduction in our revenues by 10 to 15 percent in the first quarter of 1998 from fourth quarter levels. "

Is it possible that Reuters and a few others didn't distinguish between revenues and earnings?

Ian.
