I wouldn't say always but if you're referring to the recent past I think I know what you mean. Successful marketing is a good thing insofar as it supports resale value as a collector. The built-in 8-12% annual sticker price inflation is what always angers me more. Unaware of any other industry where that's acceptable.

I believe PP is the only brand that will service any watch it's made going back hundreds of years. Even Rolex tends to cut off ties after 30-35 years. What I don't understand is the recent mini-bubble in the nautilus line. Seems very contrived to me but what do I know? When I started out that was almost a throwaway watch. A Rolex Daytona (Zenith movement 28,800BPH) or a Nautilus date I'd choose the Daytona all day long and I like PP generally speaking! Both have appreciated well.

PP, like Rolex has always remained independent and I believe changed hands once. Many don't know this but for a long time Rolex has been owned by a family trust, effectively a charitable trust established by its founder Hans Wilsdorf. Both brands, arguably the most valuable by name recognition, have remained independent and avoided the massive industry consolidation that happened in the late 1990s and early 2000s with Swatch Group and LVMH.
