It all depends on who the analyst is. I'm generally not as skeptical as most. I also do not pay that much attention to what their price targets are. Instead I look to the longer term to see if their arguments of the company's condition make sense. And from these prices VLSI is a good bet. This stock has the potential to zoom to 30 notwithstanding a couple of minor pull-backs around 23 and 27. The thing about VLSI is that it has not recovered as much as some of the other semis. So pick your option:

(a) it will recover with all the semis as people pick over the sector
(b) it comes crashing down to earth with all the other semis if ASIA sounds another warning or some other such problem occurs.

Personally I don't see why VLSI will not continue to make a s/t recovery. But let me caveat this by saying I have not followed the stock that closely in the last few weeks and I don't have a good feel for the overriding sentiment about the n/t prospects for the company. I think it's clear that they have a promising future. I hold the shares in my IRA (that is - no margin concerns) so I am apt to just let them sit and incubate for awhile if things don't pan out. At some point in the next 12 months this stock will have returned 50-75% and the Street can take this to the bank.

I have owned VLSI in the past - 17 upto 22 upto 27 upto 32 when I got out. Missed the move to 38. Now back in at 20.

The stock has not peaked short-term. It probably will within about two weeks. I hate to give a target, because I always cringe when I read a posting that says stock XYZ is going to be a $zillion by next month. The best postings I read here recently was someone fearing a drop below $17. I knew it was time to buy then.

My gut reaction to analyst buy recommendations is the same as yours. It's interesting, however, that a good number of analysts were recommending LSI Logic recently BEFORE the run-up in price.
