As to the ability to be evil - I do think you should teach the kids what Japan has done in China during WWII - atrocities comparable to the Holocaust. But remember as my mother and father told me - a minority does not define a culture or a nation, more so if that minority is/are brainwashed or their heritage/upbringing does not permit free thinking just to follow orders. The Samurai culture inflicted a lot of damage to the Japanese heritage IMHO, not much different than the Crusaders about the same time.
