"which means there probably wouldn't be enough people left to adequately respond to a planet killing asteroid, even if we saw it coming from 30 years out."

How many billion people are required to respond to a planet killing asteroid?

After 4.54 billion years no asteroid has taken out earth and the life on it.

Even 100 million people could easily deflect an asteroid and leave huge effort available for anything else, but not for hordes of human parasites living off the productive as they do now.

there probably wouldn't be enough people left to adequately respond to a planet killing asteroid, even if we saw it coming from 30 years out.

$100 per person = $10 billion to deflect an asteroid = easy peasy.
