UFO after all means unidentified flying objects. If we could prove that its an alien space craft it really isn't a UFO anymore.

Actual aliens is a possibility (one that I think is less likely then many, but hardly impossible), crazy (and hoaxes) certainty accounts for a lot (but not all) of the sightings and claims. But you right about the middle ground between them. Some sightings are just fairly ordinary objects looked at in ways that make them look extraordinary. But figuring that out can still be interesting. Others could potentially be new phenomena, not covered by any well understood existing explanations but not alien spacecraft either.
