Buckwheat, re<Cyrix-P2> I think it is not serious. By the time
when Cyrix reverse-engineered the P-II, re-wrote it for their
silicon technology, the Slot-1 will be dead. In addition, I
believe that the design is not separable from technology (at
these speeds), and different ends of NSM design will not fit,
and speed grades most likely will be far behind Intel. IMHO.

<speeding up acceptance of Slot 1?> There is no such thing as
"acceptance". Everything is at Intel's mercy. I have heard
stories that to enforce the "acceptance", Intel agree to
sell their old Socket-7 chipsets only with a
truckload of 440LX.

On the other hand, it looks like the
P-II percentage in Intel's product mix is limited by their
manufacturing capacity - the P-II die is MUCH bigger than
those for P-MMX. I believe they just fill the gap in demand
with these obsolete Pentiums-MMX. As soon as they move to
0.25, the "acceptance" could be 100% unless AMD deliver
comparable or better performance with K6-3D+ chip. Time
will tell (sorry, Brian, for borrowing):-)

$1wee, by the time cyrix reverse engineers a Pentium II Intel will be on to a new generation. Cyrix will have spent $1bill on R&D and be 24 qtrs behind the marketing product like cycle. by then the price wil colapse and everything Yousef says about Amd would apply to Cryix. Short NSM. No ax to grind. Product problems from Cyrix and flooood of competition from Asian fabs indicates the stock is over priced. It was a better short at 32 but at 24 it has broken 20,50 and 200 day support and is in a freefall to 15.... sorry Fuchi san but the fundimentals have changed for NSM.http://investools.com/cgi-bin/charts.pl

Buckwheat, yes, the Cyrix Slot-1 settlement is bad news for AMD. But, 1)I expect the FTC to force a similar agreement with AMD
2)Slot 1 will only last through '98 anyway, IMHO. When Cyrix catches up, Intel will start promoting its replacement.
