Good analysis of Intel's paranoia getting the better of them. Intel should have milked the cow a while longer. With AMD unable to produce chips, why compete on price? To put AMD out of business? That would make the FTC real happy. A lot of money was given to consumers and to the box manufacturers (not a bad thing, but, again, unnecessary).

I see another little twist to the low-cost processor strategy that will bite Intel later on. That is the sub $1000 market is exploding--"commodization" of the processor, get everybody used to less expensive machines... The speed curve may be plateauing (from a need perspective) and that works to the advantage of AMD IF they can become incredibly efficient at production. A big IF.

Bottom line is that the margins are going to get slimmer for everybody, but, of course, volume will continue to grow. Corporate America will be happy about that.

Who knows how the top ten box manufacturers are going to fare? I see half of them folding or being bought out within 2 years.
