Because we don't usually see cats in nature forming packs.

They are not generally a pack animal e.g. pretty much all big and little cats.

Go look at the myriad species of cats (a couple of dozen I think), they are mostly solitary animals.

Why wouldn't cats form packs like lions or dogs?

Hey, we all know as a pet cats are different than dogs

Cats are more self reliant, so they don't need 24/7 attention

Yeah, dogs are unconditional loving of their owner, assuming the human doesn't have faulty defects

Cats can be left alone at home during the day and they will use a cat box, and then they even groom themselves... AKA low maintenance... yet they are still very affectionate, of course personalities vary

Dogs on the other hand are much more simple personalities, depending on the breed, but are high maintenance. They are not gonna crap in a sand box in your home and they are not gonna groom themselves.

And when's the last time someone said, "God I wish that neighbors's cat would stop barking!!"

I've never seen a pack of cats. I've seen packs of dogs. Actually, I have seen a pack of cats, but they belonged to the cat lady who had assembled them.
