What people are you referring to? The VLNC thread? I would imagine that's because there is much more investment capital stuck in VLNC, and if ULBI is first to the punch then VLNC's star would shine a bit dimmer.

I agree, but since it is trending down, I am wondering if the short interest is finally burning off, and the "24 days" will wind up being February 1998. Anyone got access to open interest numbers updated more than once a month?

Regarding the short, I don't think that it is correct to say that people are more pessimistic about ULBI than VLNC just because ULBI has a larger short position. If ULBI traded at 4 or 5, and at their historical lows, like VLNC, than they would have little or no shorts. It is more important to note that the short position is decreasing than what the absolute position is. If ULBI delivers, then the shorts will be squeezed very hard. If not, they'll make money. Personally, I like the chances for a squeeze.
