>>>>>Imation's SuperDisk drive is very fast<<<<< Dale - What bugs me about this Windows Magazine article, as well as others which have recently commented about the LS-120's speedy performance, is that they really don't tell the whole story. The new LS-120 performance accelerator software, which works only on Windows 95 systems, creates a temporary disk cache on your hard drive, which appears to speed up disk writes. So when you copy files to the LS-120, the "copying to" windows goes away quickly, allowing you to resume working on your system. But the actual copying process is not done! It is being completed in the background while you work. So let's say that you, as the Windows Mag writer did, copy 120 MB worth of files to the LS-120. He said it took more than 26 minutes without the accelerator software. Then you enable the accelerator and do it again. The copy process appears to end in 16 minutes. Then you decide to pop the disk out and head elsewhere with your data. You can't, because the files are really still being moved. You will probably have to wait another twenty minutes or so before you can actually remove the disk. Yes, it will take longer than the straight copy without the "accelerator" software, because the work is being done in the background, and is actually using less of the processor's time than if it happened in the foreground. The Windows Mag writer does mention that you can't turn off your machine or eject the disk before the copying is done, because the accelerator software warns you not to, but he doesn't say how much longer it takes to really finish copying the files. Nor does he mention that if your system happens to crash or freeze up while the copying is being completed, you could end up not knowing what is really on the disk, or you could have corrupted data. The LS-120 is a slow dog, and should be put to sleep. - Allen
