Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 218089 I don't have a problem with the rationality of the curfew... on the grounds you cite. But, it is an instance in a functional half measure that can't be generalized as a solution. Still far more wrong than right in the aggregate in responses, to date... a curfew being only way to approach that part of the problem in some people fostering that aspect of the problem ? I think its pretty obvious that most people have a daily routine that has them interact with relatively few others... in a way that limits their exposure to and contact with most others outside the usual small group... See what Portugal did... that worked... by limiting movements between groups... not within them ? That moved them from "the worst" experience in Europe to "the best"... in about three months ? It meant people within a town, taking proper precautions, could do what needed doing... but travel from one town to another was limited... from one province to another, more limited... borders to other countries, more limited... with testing and 2 week quarantine limits before cross border movers were granted local access... only ? That WORKED... Would be very easily simulated... showing that a structured and sustained contact with the same people... is not the same risk as an unstructured and barrier free set of interactions with wide ranging random elements... It is the small percentage of outsiders that transmit the problem to others... including that infected enclaves don't spread risk to others... without that contact being permitted. Early days... remembering Pelosi and her "hug a Chinese person" plan... because preventing disease transmission is racist... worked in ensuring California exploded as an early primary source of transmission in North America. Mexico, like Spain and Italy, deliberately encouraging open air festivals with people packed elbow to elbow... because the virus risk was "fake" ? Brazil... <shakes head> Why was India last in ? So, granted "you can't fix stupid"... the question is easily generalized into "containing it"... somehow... while also recognizing that there is no monopoly on stupid... with just as much stupid stuff being done to "prevent" the virus spreading... and thus spreading it... as there was stupid stuff done while ignoring its risks... Public officials and health professionals enabled the problem more... than other types of stupid people. Packing old people into nursing homes... to "protect" them ? Forcing people to quarantine in tight quarters on a ship full of infected people... as the virus spread everywhere through the air handling equipment ? China's forcing people into open bay hospital wards... making sure everyone got larger doses of innoculum and became far more ill... greatly amplifying mortality rates ? Most of how you fix stupid... is institutionalizing rules that prevent making the same stupid mistakes next time. What I note, today, that is different than prior history... is that there is close to ZERO effort being made to "fix" what we got wrong... or change the "rules" to not get it wrong again next time ? Instead, there is abject denial that anything was ever done wrong... and "lets move on"... in spite of the fact of it not being over yet ? There are still 10K people dying each day... if the reportage is to be believed... but, people are done trying to do anything about it... because "the vaccine" is the answer... except that it isn't... and it never was... ? Just as there are still people claiming the whole thing is fake... there are many more willing to wrongly believe the vaccines out now "solve the problem" or believe that there is no "new" risk from variants... whether the D variant... the U.K. strain, the new Russian strain, whatever... Public policy now promotes the FICTION that the vaccines we have foster immunity... when they do not. The vaccines we have now... do nothing to stop the spread of the virus... clearly do accelerate the propagation of variants... and provide no reason for anyone to alter or reduce preventive efforts ? That the vaccine is touted as "solving" the risk... is MORE stupid... than stupid people ignoring the risks ? Belated recognition that we do need to keep the economy working... while adapting preventive measures that work to allow that... is now instead used as an excuse for fostering a new set of lies... that sustain the problem... with great potential to make it VASTLY worse... by enabling the spread of variants ? It appears the "best and brightest" have all been shoved aside... to ensure we're being led by the stupidest people we can find... if they can be made to look good enough on TV... Granted, Biden is an obvious outlier... proving to us again each and every day that no sane person would have voted for that... but, I still blame Canada for pioneering this trend...
