Agree that should be the primary goal...

Land capable of supporting you... which for a skilled gardener, doesn't require a whole lot...

But, if the SHTF in December... ? Food sufficient to survive until a new crop can grow... with all the stuff in hand that will be required to grow that new crop ?

Access to water not to be ignored... or, filters to make sure its clean...

Otherwise... also ensure enabling an avoidance of over dependence on electronics... The internet can go away... books you need for reference likely won't. If there is a CME or an EMP event... all the vehicles may stop working. No trucks stocking the stores... no trains rolling... and a couple of hundred Ever Givens adrift, all littering the Suez Canal... with no tugs that work...

Being aware of the nature of brittleness... what systems you depend on... how entropy works... is a basic survival skill.

But, while those risks are real... the greatest threat you face... now, and in the event of those other things... is still that from other people... who are NOT trying to "help"... by forcing you to do what they say.
