If memory serves me correctly, Mr. O'Neil once tried running a mutual fund based on his investment ideas. The results were a disaster.

Considering that the CANSLIM method is aimed at small cap stocks (the "S" part is something like "under 20,000,000 shares") I'm not surprised that the mutual fund didn't perform like an individual's portfolio could.

I agree that no one method of stock selection will find you every good stock. If it did you couldn't buy them all anyway. Actually I take that back. There is one method that'll find you every good non-BB company: it must be in the IBD stock tables. The only problem is that it lets too many bad one through... :)
