limtex,
BT doesn't want to be a trader in US communications stocks which it subsequently loses to the "big league" players. It wants to be a "big league" player and it can't unless it has a material position in the US.

Having been through the Mcic/BT debacle thank goodness BT was outbid, but it was their own hesitation to commit that caused them to lose MCI. I would bet from watching BT that "if" they make a move toward WCII it is by taking a stake first. They seem to test waters cautiously first which is typical of the conservative makeup of the British. Should they do this they will open the flood gates for counter offers. Come on BT do it.
