Pugs, you can try and use whatever type of flowering and philosophical justifications you wish in explaining the "art" of boxing. However, even a double digit IQ can figure out that the real art to boxing comes from giving more than you get and having the sheer guts to be able to stay on your feet longer than your opponent. Boxing is about inflicting physical punishment and the mind's ability to override the pain and damage that is being inflicted on its life support system, ie: the body. Why don't you call a spade a spade. I know a lot of folks who were "down-range ballistic recovery units"(infantry) in 'Nam and elsewhere and everytime someone started shooting at them they certainly felt closer to god. However, very few of them would suggest that there was any glory in being shot. Their only glory was in surviving with most of the body parts intact. If the only way that you can fully challenge yourself, or feel closer to god, is to exchange body blows with someone until either one or both of you are bleeding and bruised, I would opine that something is lacking in your life. Boxing is a sport and can be something that you derive challenge from. But it is brutal and it certainly isn't the only method of "finding God". It's your kick and seems to be what you enjoy. Leave it at that. In fact, if you want to feel closer to God, may I suggest freestyle rock climbing?? Just you and the rock, no ropes, and two awesome forces known as gravity and friction in a constant battle for your life. Now that is a challenge. I've personally watched these rock monkies at work, but there is no way I will ever risk my life like that without my "friends" and my ropes. Regards, Ron
