"is there a survival advantage that is generated by having a genetic predisposition to produce a population with a range of potential in variation"... I think that's probably close to or somewhat true... which is my opinion, based on anecdotal observation, and not "science". I think it "seems true" that about a third of the population tend to be intrinsically conservative, a third tend to be intrinsically liberal... and a third "insist on choosing" to be intrinsically libertarian... Conservatives hold society together... if at the risk of a brittleness resulting from overly slavish attachment to "this is the only way things can be done"... which proves a survival disadvantage either when a competitor finds a better way... or when change in the environment makes the old way of doing things disadvantageous... Liberals... ruin everything they touch, and ensure nothing works... and claim it an advantage because demand "build back better"... although demand without knowing how. So, rather than putting failure off until some change in the environment forces a test... they'd rather just fail now and get it over with... Libertarians... know both of those approaches are wrong... but can't agree among themselves what to do about it... or, if they agree on what, then can't agree on how they should do it... So, something of a spread between "social agglomeration" instincts, too... between lone wolves relishing tests of self reliance... and people who can't survive at all without others doing everything for them, including feeding them... A new scientific field it would be good to invent, if it hasn't been done... is behavioral archaeology... studying "the way things are done"... and how adaptive or mal-adaptive that proves as things change over time... and people change, or not... in response. And, obviously, if there's any truth in that view... the problem is only one of "teams" with one intrinsic view always trying to beat the other...rather than figuring out how to optimize opportunities for everyone, while considering the intrinsic differences... rather than hating on "the other"... as mostly if not only liberals tend to do... at least until the liberals foster and earn others unremitting ire... by committing genocides, etc.
