I think some of those SSDs are consumer grade, others are high end gaming grade, and perhaps the Intel is enterprise grade, but I'm not really sure.

The connection technology - PCIe NVME (newer, more expensive) versus SATA-3 (older, cheaper) - is another price factor.

There are only 6-7 NAND makers and 2 merchant NAND controller makers. You can't really get "shady engineering" given limited suppliers of components. After the NAND memory and the controller, I don't think any of the components cost more than a few pennies.
