Nope, never was short AOL, but I just can't get over what it's trading at these days. In light of the Asian situation, it's nice not to have any real dependency on sales of actual product, I guess. Service-oriented businesses, particularly online/internet, seem to have weathered the past few months quite well. Check out YHOO and XCIT, too.

Did you read that article on the founders of SI, who turned down the 900,000 share buyout offer from Excite in 1996, to integrate SI into their service? At the time, that valued SI at about $5 mil, or $5.5 per share in XCIT stock. Today, XCIT closed at 48 -- if they had accepted the offer, the 900,000 shares would be worth 43.2 mil...a profit of 873% in about 18 months. I wonder what they could fetch for SI today? $100 mil? After all, MSFT paid about $400 mil for Hotmail.com this last December -- and that's just a email service.
