Just for reference, there was also this beast of a purple box which conformed neatly with the overall pattern, just missing entry into the box at the dashed "doorway". Up (barely) on the left, down on the right and exit via the dotted "doorway".
At the same time, the smaller 2 black boxes within it, held the right up/down - left down/up pattern.

It must have something to do with preference for the symmetry of a square within the grid of the map.
