Audits in every State are needed to eliminate the career pol’s that clearly have been feasting off of our unsecured election processes for decades imo.

Dino Rossi (A Better Man)
Dino John Rossi (born October 15, 1959) is an American businessman and politician currently serving as the junior United States Senator from Washington since 2013. A Republican, he previously served as the Governor of Washington from 2005 to 2013, and before that, as a Washington State Senator from 1997 to 2003.

Born in Seattle, Rossi graduated from Seattle University and pursued a career in commercial real estate. After serving for six years in the State Senate, he ran for Governor of Washington in 2004. In what was the closest gubernatorial election in United States history, he defeated incumbent Attorney General, Democrat Christine Gregoire, by a margin of just 48 votes, becoming the first Republican governor of the state since 1980. He ran for reelection in 2008, defeating Christine Gregoire once again, since time with a comfortable 54% of the vote.

Term limited in 2012, Rossi declared his candidacy for the United States Senate seat currently held by Democrat Maria Cantwell. Initially an underdog (despite his positive approval rating as Governor), Rossi pumped money from his personal fortune into the race. On election night, he defeated Cantwell in an upset by a 50-48 margin. Rossi was reelected in 2018. He ran for President of the United States in 2020, but dropped out early on in the primaries. He is the only Republican Senator from the West Coast of the United States.

Elections2004Rossi decided to run for Governor in November 2003, but was already facing an uphill battle in terms of money raised, low name identification with voters and trends established by the two prior GOP candidates for governor. The sitting Washington State Attorney General and Rossi's eventual opponent in the general election, Democrat Christine Gregoire, had already raised $1.15 million by December, only weeks after Rossi officially kicked off his campaign. Furthermore, the previous two GOP candidates for governor had lost their campaign bids by 16% and 18.7% in 1996 and 2000.

In the November 2 election, over 2.8 million votes were cast for governor. After the initial vote count, Rossi led Gregoire by 397 votes. Washington State law required a recount because of the small margin. After the second count, Rossi again led, but by a smaller margin of 88 votes. After a third count, done by hand, Rossi maintained a very slim 48 vote lead. He was certified the winner; however, Gregoire did not formally concede until July 2005 after all of her options of appealing to the state's Supreme Court were exhausted.

The election is notable as the closest gubernatorial race in the history of the United States and was the subject of the Trova Heffernan book An Election for the Ages

2008Rossi ran for re-election in 2008. While he was initially facing an uphill campaign due to the Recession, the consensus among voters was that it was the fault of the federal government, and more specifically, President John Kerry. Securing the nomination with no competitors, he once again faced off against Christine Gregoire in a rematch of the 2004 race. Rossi's campaign was centered on many of the issues he made a priority as Governor, namely controlling the spending of the state's legislature, tax cuts, and improving the business environment within the state. He was endorsed by The Seattle Times. Gregoire's attempts to connect Rossi to the Recession were unsuccessful, as many voters felt that he was doing the best given a bad situation.

Governor Dino Rossi defeated Christine Gregoire in the 2008 election and she formally conceded at noon on November 5, 2008. His margin of victory was 54.7% to 45.3%
