an aside, Haim is correct, that China is the largest polluter, unless we believe MQ, that CO2 is a good, in which case Americans contributing more than all others to the global common good, and even some of China's contribution must be attributed to Americans given the export of goods and import of services.

that was 30 years ago and true ALL wars are strong emitters of GHG - see the GHG emissions during WWII in relation to previous and after the war
