This time it's more likely they're trying to consolidate their walled garden, to the extent that it's still possible. Those of us who have been online for decades think in terms of desktop PC's, and laptops. But there are over 5 billion cellphones in the world, so Android and iOS have left MSFT in the dust as far as online relevance is concerned. That said, I've always despised IE; I thought early Netscape was a superior product subject to unfair competition.
