It has been the party of liberals and they know what moral behavior is and try to live accordingly. They have not been in range of any real reform for over 50 years since Nixon, and the Civil Right's vote in 64 when the Republicans used racism to attract 75% of the south e.g. "The Lee Atwood Southern strategy", and rural areas! The Democrats have no had any real power since the McGovern Debacle. When the "South" and rural areas decided to become 70% to 80% Republican because they hated integration and liberal civil rights and so they stopped the Democrats at every turn. For 60 years the Republicans with one criminal after another running both the presidency and congress have increasingly destroyed the country. And how you can confirm this is to look at how income inequality steadily increased, to where today it is insane, where the 1% own more wealth than the bottom 90% or something like that. The Republicans ONLY goal for the last 60 years was to steal our countries wealth and give it to the rich and they have been very successful because their brain dead followers cannot figure out how they are being fleeced. I believe had JFK, MLK and Bobby lived, we would have been able to stave off the right wing, but with them gone, we not only had no moral leadership, we had guys like Newt, Phil Graham and Tom Delay and a Republican congress running the country, and their toxic politics have polluted this country and it has come to this where they are shaking the very foundations of our democracy. The Republican party is an ill wind that blows no good! <<The Democrats would have passed public financing 50 years ago, So I used to think, but whenever it seems they are within range of some kind of real reform they choke. It's not that they fail the effort, they usually abandon it. Take today for example. Faced with a threat to the very voting system that makes democracy possible the Democratic leadership concentrates on giving out money and treats to supporters, most of which will probably vote Democratic anyway if they vote at all. In the mean time the very structure of our system is threatened. This is too consistent a pattern to be an accident. The Democrats just have a different narrative for the same agenda.
