RE: Imation Reports - Mixed News.

IMN reported this morning. They lost about $4/share for the quarter and year, mostly due to a restructuring that they just announced (also today).

On one hand, they say that "pricing pressures and competition in low end data storage, printing plates and film, and conventional medical imaging were negative factors in the quarter" but on the other hand they say that "SuperDisk technology, delivering 120Mb of storage in a 3.5 inch floppy diskette is well positioned for growth in 1998 as the 12.7 mm slim line version begins shipping in notebook PCs from NEC, ACER, Compaq and IBM".

It sounds like removable storage might be hurting their tape business (as it is for Iomega), and that their Superdisk business is below their expectations, but that they still expect it to grow next year.

I have to admit that the notebook business is the one area where Zip seems most vunerable. Superdisk certainly seems to have the best chance of upsetting Iomega in that area.
