1. Slavery was not a founding principle of the US. 2. Physical compulsion of individuals was not a founding principle of the US. 3. The US constitution provided a means to change itself and our laws.

Don't forget that a tiny fraction of the people voted for the Constitution. Imagine if blacks, natives, women, and people without land could have voted. It wouldn't have passed. It was a constitution of, for, and by the rich.

Wharfie, What is moral about allowing slavery? I'm so glad the Constitution was amended to outlaw slavery, gives blacks and other minorities the right to vote, and later even give women the right to vote as well. But hey, because the Constitution was ratified while slavery was still allowed, that means everything in it must be immoral and in support of slavery. That includes the First Amendment and even the Second Amendment, according to The View: Tenchusatsu
