Perhaps we need a new metaphor for them - using shooting ranges. He is carelessly waving around an automatic with a round chambered, his finger inside the guard, and the safety off. Yours has an empty chamber and the safety on, on the table, barrel pointed down range. He says Hey, we both have the same automatic! 2nd Amendment, yeah!! Is he expressing his "freedom" the same as you in that situation? Does it really come down to choice? The rangemaster wouldn't think so.
