What is your WiFi connected to?

As in Australia, it's not economic to provide broadband to rural areas and less affluent neighborhoods with low broadband adoption without a government mandate or financial assistance.

Starlink by Spacex, currently in beta, is a huge advance for rural areas at $99 per month plus $500 for the satellite dish, which actually costs Spacex $1,000.

5G can provide fast speeds, but only if the cell tower ultimately has a fiber cable to connect to.

.

Upgrading the electrical utility network and providing charging stations is even more urgent.

Can anybody here tell me why we need broadband in the infrastructure bill? I have wi-fi, and it works just fine. Wouldn't it be cheaper to give everybody one?

A couple of reasons leap to mind. First, wifi is a short range signal and depends on the broadband internet connection to reach your house, apartment, spot in the mall, etc.

Second reason is that wifi is a slow and weak connection. Many people need much more reliable connections direct to their computers--home workers, for instance. We had to do that for my daughter.
