RE <<Former waiter Tong Ying-kit, 24, was accused of driving his motorcycle into three riot police last year while carrying a flag with the protest slogan "Liberate Hong Kong. Revolution of our times".>>

In some and quite a few domains Mr Tong would likely have been summarily executed on the spot, a reasonable guess, and in any case a prison sentence in those same domains might effectively be a capital sentence given the current state of hygiene, but only after he experiences all manner of indignities.

Mr Tong, thankfully, is in HK.

On good behavior he might be out in 48 months, without catching covid and unmolested by fellow prisoners.
