I know nothing about this newsletter but it states that it is "Information for Enlightened Choices from Harvard Medical School". There is a 1/2 page article called "Knocking Out Knee Pain" The article talks about the knew approach to treating OA of the knee---viscosupplementation. They mention two products throughout the article --SYNVISC and HYALGAN-----SYNVISC is always mentioned first. It goes on to discribe the problems associated with AO of the knee and how viscosupplementation helps. It describes the products themselves then states studies done in Germany that have shown a reduction in knee pain in 60-75% of pts treated compared to 25-30% receiving placebo. It then states that SYNVISC, in other studies, has been as effective as NSAIDS. The article then goes into describing the injections, clearly stating that Synvisc requires 3 injections to Hyalgan's five.
