And more:

(7) What LSI's focus is when it comes to going after designs:

- high volume
- high growth
- use their technical leverage
- partner with high profile customers

[translated: Minolta with DCAM will turn into a blockbuster. Remember that LSI's R&D with Minolta does not mean that they can't transfer the DCAM technology to other designs. And they have done just that. A market with high potential growth, LSI can do high volume chips, use their technical leverage and digital expetise and SOC knowledge, and partnering with Minolta a high profile customer.

So can anyone see the potential for other consumer devices such as the JAVA appliances, the Win CE (Microsoft sucks - never fail to get an opportunity to abuse MSFT) devices etc etc etc.

One of the research organizations has consumer related devices exploding over the next few years. I have LSI because of their strength in this area. So life is good.]

(8) Anecdotal evidence: LSI attended a presentation by one of their competitors who said they would like to be an SOC company blah blah blah. Guess what they showed for the example of the SOC?

LSI's PlayStation!

[translated: Brilliant competitive strategy don't you think!

And does show that LSI is way ahead of the newbies.

Competitors are mostly talk. Of course IBM and others are exceptions.

But for now, and I had suspected this, most of the harangue and noise from others is mostly smoke. For evidence I remember the Koreans saying who first said that they would move their DRAM to SOC because of the higher margins and then recanted because of the technical difficulties involved. And BTW this also supports my claim that IP rules. I win again! HA!]

(9) The SonyPlayStation chip: Sony is happy. Unlike the computer area consumer electronics gizmos last a long time. For instance Sony PlayStation could go 5-6 years. Relationship with Sony is strong.
