How quickly we forget we armed Saddam Hussain in order keep Iran from invading Iraq.
We forget we armed Ossama Ben Laden to help him in their war against Russia.
We arm these nations and they turn around and eventual turn “our” weapons to kill our soldiers.
When will we ever learn...our weapon manufacturing companies make profits when their rockets are fired..no matter if they are aimed at an Iraqi or American soldier.

One slight correction.. Reagan funded the Talibans to fight Russians and not the Afghans because by then Russians were in Afghanistan and running the show if I remember ..

To be clear, I do not view Carter as weak; it was and remains the Republican playbook to frame post WWII liberal Dems as weak on foreign policy. It was a vestige of capturing Roosevelt Democrats, aka "the greatest generation," after 1945. This propaganda worked on my father and many vet friends in his circles.

I (perhaps many of you also) experienced a big and often emotional policy gap with that more hawkish generation regarding the Vietnam war, especially the VFW types.

While Trump, who CHOSE not to serve, played the weak-left card too. While Jimmy Carter won medals serving from 1946-1953 (and then until 1961 in the reserves.)

if one views Carter as weak, then how about Reagan as being stupid. it was Reagan who funded the Afghans in the '80s.. it started there.
That started with Carter, not Reagan.

How Jimmy Carter Started America’s Afghanistan Folly
The United States first intervened in Afghanistan in the summer of 1979—six full months before the Soviet Union’s land invasion—when Carter was president. Prodded by his hawkish national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter reluctantly agreed to authorize a small covert action program to provide aid to a motley group of mujahideen guerrilla forces challenging the central government in Kabul. Take note: These mujahideen were extreme Sunni Muslim fundamentalists, and more than a decade later they would morph into the Taliban.
