"whatever in the mid- East is always about oil" as I recall there is not a spit of oil in Afghanistan.. does not matter squat the reason we went there, failing our sorry asses, chasing down bin laden. for one thing.. the Soviets were not doing well in Afghanistan.. why did Reagan force the issue? I think it can be said, he liked Cowboy diplomacy. That whole issue with the contra- iran thing (he should have been impeached for that) & the support to his Afghan "freedom fighters".. the mujahideen (via the Pakistani ISI & fuc*g SaudiArabia) was problematic from the get- go. When the Soviets exited they should have given Reagan a freedom medal.. on hastening their exit, minimizing their losses, manpower & money. Reagan was a great asset to them. & what does that numbnuts GWbush2 do? "Mission Accomplished". he chases down one fuckg saudi prince by invading 2 countries (at least give Obama credit for that successful surgical strike under the noses of our ALLY, pakistan's ISI). from my understandings, Saudi Arabia for years was fairly open, but if I recall it was in 1979 when the Salafists exercised their Sunni conservatism on the "House of Saud"... the same year Khomeini returned to Iran. I mean.. if you sleep with these bastards, keep one eye open. Reagan snoozed off. Bush2.. somebody's child play. I'm a product of the mid- '60s and as I look back 40 yrs ago and since, our foreign policy in the mid- East was moronic. I do not trust the Saudis at all.. backstabbing assassins of their own people besides 911 the Israelis, f** them too. I recall the USS Liberty attack.. our friends in Israel. Now, they're selling Pegasus spyware to the thugs, zealots, autocrats, roque warriors, whatnot. I guess Israel figures to let the world duke it out.. it keeps the monkey off their back. Brutal & harsh. By the way.. Bill Clinton is enormously popular here in the Balkans (except for Serbia. he bombed Belgrade, inadvertently the Chinese embassy too). Clinton, the "Hero of Kosovo", even has a statue in Pristina. so much for the losers & heroes.
