In separate news briefings, President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg placed the blame squarely on the Afghan national government for the dramatic and swift Taliban takeover. From the Pentagon, Milley offered his perspective. Milley said that while some U.S. intelligence assessments had found that an outright Taliban takeover was possible, the timeframe varied from “weeks, months and even years” after the U.S. withdrawal. “I did not nor did anyone else see a collapse of any army that size in 11 days,” Milley said. ===== Seriously?! Nobody saw this coming? Maybe you should hire people with a brain bigger than a peanut. Let me paint you a picture. You are in a hostile territory and not only your own life is on the line, so is the life of your family and everyone that you love. At best you assess that your city will fall within months...likely weeks. You have one chance to save the lives of your children and that is to cut a deal with the other side and surrender. Are you going to stick around and fight so that maybe you will die in a few months? Once the outcome is a foregone conclusion, it will happen as fast as physically possible. What the government really wants to say is that we are shocked that the Afghans were not gullible and didn't buy our pep talk. It is shocking that they have a functional brain and when they see us and their own government officials running away, they don't take our word and martyr themselves so that we can get out safely. Sigh!
