That is also the answer to the questions Marcher was addressing... About the function of hyper-vigilance in the perception of risk... The amplification of perception of risk... is not a natural evolution... it is ENABLED by control... The purpose of it being : the enhanced perception of risks enables fostering greater tolerance of failure, making the impacts less in realization... in proportionate relation to the elevated level of fear... Making you afraid... allows doing far more violence to you... under the guise of protecting you from worse. It should easily be recognizable as a political extension of threat, fully consistent with other, similar forms of domestic abuse... not forgetting that a "man" who beats his wife... to justify and reward his own failings... might in fact kill her. Fear... and how you respond to it... as other things within your control... is a choice...
