Parvin - Re: "..the rights to build Pentium II clones. "

Intel and NSM extended their patent cross license agreement. That gives Cyrix/NSM the freedom to use Intel patents ONLY.

Cyrix/NSM would still have to design the Pentium II Knock-Off chip on their own.

Re: "If IBM bought National, wouldn't that give them the same x-license?"

Tell you what, Pravin - you may be looking for another BAIL OUT for NSM now that NSM bailed out Cyrix and the Bail Out seems to becoming unraveled.

BUT - IBM IS ALREADY CROSS LICENSED to use Intel's patents - how the heck do you think Cyrix was able to make their 6x86 chips? That's right - through a patent laundering scheme using IBM's cross license with Intel.

IBM doesn't need National Semi for anything.

Pravin,

RE:"If IBM bought National, wouldn't that give them the
same x-license?"

I believe IBM all ready holds a broad cross licensing agreement that would allow them to access to all the patients necessary.
