What comes immediately to mind is the fictional work "Lord of the Flies".

The other things that come to mind are responses to invasion or other traumatic events, which don't really fit you premise of spontaneous immorality. I think the closest example would be the Spanish colonization of Mexico and South America. Here the conqueror changed. They seemed to start out with good intentions for all, but turned to murder, exploitation, slavery, and loss of empathy.
