interesting that Stockhouse does not oppose court orders. I posted a wee bit there 20 years ago but pretty sure I havent in well over 10 years. NOt that I ever posted anything much - only one i can think of was KHI TSE and CEO and Lawyer eventually went to jail - only took 18 years - They may still be in jail but I doubt it. it was stock manipulation charges. SEe bold notes

Midpoint Holdings Ltd.'s president, Derek Ivany, has filed a case in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, seeking to identify Stockhouse posters who accused him of being part of a "notorious thug crew," among other things. He says that the postings are defamatory and he has no way of obtaining the names of those behind them. He is seeking a court order that would allow him to identify the authors.

The request from Mr. Ivany is contained in a petition filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Nov. 26, 2021. He is seeking information that would allow him to identify two Stockhouse users, listed as "TheTexan" and "Bogdansz." According to the petition, those users are behind a string of defamatory posts that Mr. Ivany learned of in mid-2021.

Among other things, the posts accused Mr. Ivany of running a pump-and-dump with Agra Ventures Ltd., a Canadian Securities Exchange listing, the petition states. (Mr. Ivany does not appear to have any role at Agra in its present form, but he was president of its predecessor, Agraflora Organics International Inc., until he resigned on May 21, 2019. The stock had an 86-cent high in the months leading up to his departure.)

The posts, as set out in Mr. Ivany's petition, also stated that Joseph Mengele would be "proud" of Mr. Ivany. (Josef Mengele was a Nazi doctor called the "Angel of Death." He performed medical experiments on concentration camp prisoners and operated the gas chambers used in those camps. After the war he fled Germany for Argentina, and drowned in 1979.) The posts further stated that Mr. Ivany was a con artist of "epic proportions" and that he participated in money laundering schemes, the petition states.

Citing the defamatory nature of the material, Mr. Ivany is looking to obtain information that would allow him to identify the posters. In particular, he is asking for a court order that would direct Stockhouse to disclose names, addresses, e-mail addresses, credit card numbers, or any other identifying records it has. One of the pieces of information that Mr. Ivany is seeking is the IP addresses that the users posted from. These are unique identifiers that can be used to trace a user to a physical location. Once he has identified the users, Mr. Ivany would be in a position to file a lawsuit or demand an apology.

The matter has yet to go before a judge, although it is very likely that Mr. Ivany will obtain the order that he seeks. Stockhouse usually does not oppose court cases seeking to identify those behind defamatory posts. Vancouver lawyer Patrick Sullivan of Whitelaw Twining Law Corp. filed the petition on Mr. Ivany's behalf.

Mr. Ivany's present company, Midpoint Holdings, operates a currency exchange website. The stock closed at 14 cents Thursday, up 1.5 cents.
