I believe your observation about "the only place these boxmakers have left to sell their wares", needs to be reviewed.
I believe only relatively small per centage of computer equipment
owners are properly protected in the U.S.
They also sell to the rapidly growing server market and every
server must be protected.
I believe the winter storms across the USA have shown the need
for UPS equipment. I recently had my computer saved by an APCC unit
when we got hit by an electrical storm.
The recent developments in the Utility industry that leaves the
power companies to wheel and deal in any market will have a
disruptive effect on electrical supplies and hence create more
domestic need than ever.
Apcc has emerged as the nr. one supplier and dominates the
industry, thus should profit from the above. I believe a breakthru
in the price above 32 is in the cards for this spring.....Yankee Gil

Re: ..the only place these boxmakers have left to sell their wares is in countries without reliable power....

Yes -- like Florida for example? There are a lot of places with "reliable" power, but which do have a lot of flickers when lightning strikes the system somewhere. The flickers don't generally much bother your TV, washing machine, et al, but it can screw up the program currently running on your computer and lose its data.
